AMELIA COBURN RETURNS TO MIDDLESBROUGH FOR INTIMATE GIG

SINGING ukulele star Amelia Coburn plays an intimate gig in Middlesbrough’s Central Library on Tuesday, December 20.

Amelia plays songs by the likes of David Bowie, The Smiths and Joy Division on her miniature four-stringed instrument.

Doors open at 7.30pm and the concert runs until 10.30pm. There will not be any alcohol sold at the event. There will, however, be tea, coffee and light refreshments.

MARI HANNAH INTRODUCES HER NEW NOVEL GALLOWS DROP

A CRIME writer whose work is being adapted for television by Stephen Fry will be hosting a talk in Middlesbrough about her novels.

Mari Hannah will be at Acklam Library and Community Hub on Monday, 19th December at 6pm.

It was recently announced that her character DCI Kate Daniels was optioned for TV by Sprout Pictures, a production company owned by Gina Carter and Stephen Fry, and is now in development.

The latest in the Kate Daniels series is the novel Gallows Drop, which the award-winning Mari will be discussing and signing copies of at the Acklam event.

The talk is the rearranged date following the postponement of the original event on November 3 and tickets are still valid.

COME AND JOIN THE BIG SING IN CENTRE SQUARE

O COME All Ye Faithful and join the Magical Middlesbrough Christmas Big Sing!
Community groups and schools will come together in Middlesbrough’s Centre Square for carols, Christmas songs and festive fun including a Winter Lantern Garden on Sunday, December 18. The event is open to the public and includes the opportunity for visitors to the town centre to design and make their own festive lanterns. The lantern workshops begin at 2pm with the Big Sing following at 3.30pm. Songs to be tackled by the assembled groups include Let it Snow, Hark the Herald Angels Sing, Away in a Manger and Walking in a Winter Wonderland.
Among those taking part are the Middlesbrough Town Hall Community Choir and groups of young people who have been taking part in projects supported by musinc and led by Middlesbrough based Microtone Music.

Primary schools from across the town will also be taking part in the event.

Crime author – Mari Hannah event

Crime author Mari Hannah will discuss her writing and introduce her new novel ‘Gallows Drop’. Mari’s books featuring Kate Daniels have been optioned for television by Stephen Fry so hopefully we’ll see them on the small screen soon. Mari will be happy to sign books on the night. Once Upon a Time… exhibition is free!

The Dorman Museum’s popular Once Upon a Time… exhibition is offering free admission in the run-up to Christmas.

The exhibition - featuring a variety of objects from the museum’s own collections and magnificent paintings from Hartlepool Museums - recaptures the magic of childhood and illustrates a wide range of popular fairy tales and nursery rhymes.

Extended from the summer, the exhibition will be open 9.30am to 4.30pm (normal museum opening times) Tuesday to Sunday, with a last chance to see it on Friday, December 30.
