MIDDLESBROUGH MODEL RAILWAY CLUB EXHIBITION 2017

ALL aboard for the 2017 Middlesbrough Model Railway Club Exhibition!
This year’s event is on track to open its doors at 10am on Saturday, May 20 and Sunday, May 21 at Newport Settlement in St Paul’s Road.
The Model Railway Club has been based in Newport Settlement since the 1950s, and the annual exhibition is a firm family favourite.
The show – from 10am to 5pm each day - is a chance for rail fans of all ages to enjoy fellow enthusiasts’ layouts and add to their own collections from one of the many trade stands. Youngsters are welcome to come along and play on the Exhibition’s train set.
Admission is £6 for adults, £5 for seniors, £4 for children and £12 for families. The Centre has ample free parking and refreshments will be available.

The Big Sing

Our Faithfully Ageing Better Development Worker, Maddy, is hosting a 'Big Sing', as part of Dementia Awareness Week. It will be held at St Mary's Church Hall, Green Lane, Acklam on Wednesday 17th May from 2.30pm. No musical experience needed, just come and enjoy singing with others. Everyone is welcome. The King and I Dementia Friendly Screening

Cineworld Middlesbrough will be holding Dementia-Friendly screening on Monday May 15th at 11am, Doors open at 10.30am.
Dementia Friendly screenings enable people living with dementia and their carers to attend the cinema in a safe and comfortable environment, giving them the chance to get out and socialise. Screenings are open to everyone, but are enhanced to suit the needs of people living with dementia: ​During the film low lights are left on inside the auditorium, the volume of the soundtrack is reduced and it’s fine for members of the audience to express themselves.
The staff on duty for these screenings have become Dementia Friends to help provide support before, during and after the screenings, as well as making our venue generally more Dementia Friendly.

Wheelchair spaces are limited so please book in advance.

Middlesbrough Opera Hour with Streetwise Opera

Middlesbrough Opera Hour with Streetwise Opera – Thursday 16th March Middlesbrough Central Library 7pm
Award winning charity Streetwise Opera presents the world premiere of a brand new composition as part of an inspiring hour of music in Middlesbrough. Featured in the concert will be opera extracts and songs, a short video and an informal audience singalong.
However, one of the main highlights will be a brand new opera chorus, composed by Bushra El-Turk with lyrics by Streetwise Opera’s performers, which has been created as part of the group’s 15th anniversary season.

Streetwise Opera is an award-winning charity that uses music to help people make positive changes in their lives. Working with people who have experienced homelessness and other members of the community, it runs workshop programmes across England, stages critically-acclaimed operas and manages With One Voice, an international arts and homelessness movement.

Middlesbrough Opera Hour is a great chance to hear from Streetwise Opera’s performers and find out more about the charity’s work.

GOLDEN NIGHT OF SWING AT MIDDLESBROUGH THEATRE

Come and join this wonderful Orchestra to celebrate 50 glorious years of swing at Middlesbrough Theatre on Friday, March 17.

In 1967 Syd Lawrence formed what was to become the UK’s most successful and longest running Big Band, performing in theatres all over Europe and regularly featuring on TV shows such as Les Dawson, Morecambe and Wise, Pebble Mill, Wheel Tappers and Shunters and a Royal Variety performance.

For the last 20 years the Orchestra has been led by virtuoso trombonist Chris Dean and has continued to fill theatres around the country, making 14 albums under his baton and recording TV shows in England and Germany.
