Our Please have a seat campaign is a really simple concept. We support local venues and businesses to be more welcoming of older people and those with mobility issues by supplying a chair for people to rest, relax and sit down.
The scheme is already running in other towns and cities, including Nottingham and Manchester, where it works really well for both businesses and residents.
Knowing there is a place to sit down for a while creates a friendlier shopping environment and encourages more people to go out.
Join Please have a seat and help us make Middlesbrough a more age friendly place to shop and visit. Find out which venues and businesses have already signed up here
What we provide
We provide everything you need to take part in Please have a seat.
This includes a chair, if you don’t already have one, and a sticker to display in your window.
Your business will be promoted on the Ageing Better Middlesbrough website with other Please have a seat premises.
We will also regularly share good news stories about the campaign on social media and in our newsletter that reaches more than 3700 older people.
If you already offer people a place to sit down, water to drink or access to a free toilet, please let us know. We are putting together a guide that lists age friendly places in Middlesbrough.
