Mabel is certainly ‘Ageing Better’ in Middlesbrough
“Nobody should get bored because there’s plenty to do”
We’ve met Mabel, who is certainly Ageing Better in Middlesbrough!
Mabel is an inspirational woman. At age 91, she keeps herself active and busy.
We caught up with her at Middlesbrough Bowling Club in February where she enjoys playing both carpet and outdoor bowls.
She said: “I’m looking forward to playing bowls outside in the summer.”
As well as her love of bowling, Mabel also plays table tennis in Acklam and Marton, goes to the gym and attends church.
Since 2006, she’s volunteered in the Chemotherapy Day Unit at James Cook University Hospital.
Mabel said: “I like to give something back.” And she still finds time to meet her friends for lunch and shopping at the weekend.
When chatting to Mabel about her busy life, she explained: “I suppose I’m fortunate in having my health and my motto is ‘just keep going, don’t stop!”
“Even if you’re not active in the body, there’s lots to do like book clubs or knitting. When you join a club, you make friends and that keeps you young in your mind.”
Middlesbrough Bowling Club also hosts a wide range of other activities such as bee keeping, stamp collecting and line dancing! They are looking for new members and you can find out more on their website www.middlesbroughbowlingclub.com or call the club on 01642 817444.
